A battlefield? 🤔 Husband and wife? 👀 Grandchildren? 😵‍💫

Kassenba's Weeping Cherry Tree has quite an interesting history.

From afar, it simply looks like a massive weeping cherry tree with flowers cascading from its branches. 🌸

Up close, you’ll see these are actually two trees standing close together! 🫶

Because of their closeness, these are known as the husband and wife cherry tree, and the spot truly makes for a romantic date spot! 💗

However…

The trees are in fact said to be grand-children of the great Miharu Takizakura tree in Miharu town!

Miharu Takizakura is +1000 years old, while these weeping cherry trees are still +170 years young!

As for the battlefield…

⚔️ These trees stand on the site where a samurai battle allegedly took place!
Hence its name in Japanese, ‘kassenba’, which means battlefield.

🌸The area surrounding the trees is absolutely beautiful and brimming with weeping cherry blossoms and bright yellow nanohana flowers.

Kassenba's Weeping Cherry Tree is located in a rural area, and can only be reached by car, but it is well worth the drive!

Pictures are from last week, when the trees were in full bloom. You may notice that the tree itself doesn’t look that full - it is currently under treatment with the hopes of invigorating it, so hopefully it’ll bloom more fully in the coming years.

I’d most certainly recommend adding this tree to your list of must-see sakura destinations for next year!

If you found this reel interesting, be sure to share it and save it for your next visit to Nihonmatsu City!
