Open relationships. Tell me your thoughts 👇

There’s a rising curiosity around being non-monogamous. While it’s been taboo for many years people are becoming more open to the idea of living with multiple partners or supporting their partner in having hook ups. For some it may even be casual dates and for others the arrangement could look more like ‘swinging’ as a couple.

2022 data from dating app @hinge showed one in five Hinge users “would consider” trying out an open relationship, while one in 10 have already engaged in one.

This may stem from an overall trend towards open mindedness. People are more willing to challenge societal norms and this has opened the door for people to question their own desires, too. Yet despite more people embracing non-monogamous arrangements, and a rising visibility around open relationships, the general perception still leans negative. While those negative attitudes may not stop people from thinking about being in open relationships, it can deter them from engaging in them.

Whatever you think of open relationships, people are becoming more open and transparent about what they want in a relationship. Societally we’re becoming more accepting to different ideas and a little bit less judgmental about others.
