ORTEGA HOUSE.
A place where the timeless beauty of the Sassi meets that of figurative art. A vivid testimony of the presence in Matera of the great Spanish artist José Ortega and, at the same time, a project that aims to encourage the rediscovery of an ancient local craft tradition.
Located in Sasso Barisano, the building is a former Longobard fortress in a very spectacular dominant position, in fact houses twenty polychrome bas-reliefs that the Iberian painter created in 1975 in the Città dei Sassi, using the most popular, most emblematic local craft technique: papier-mâché.
