Chapelle suggests that great men will carry themselves with boastful pride because they know their worth, but will harbour inner humility because they know everyone else's worth, also. It got me to thinking about how I carry myself more with outward humility, because that is what I am told to do (and I know I will be attacked if I don't), and inward pride because I know I am good, and honest, and idealistic, and brave, and talented. Do I have it all backwards? Because the outward humility has kept me from my own ego, but it has also kept me from my own greatness. Or has it? I will never know, because I have been told too many times to stop openly owning my knowing and instead dress it up as uncertainty...and, too many times, I listened. What is your impression?
