I will never not appreciate the power of being in a room where everyone is passionate about the same mission. It is such a gift to continue spreading awareness of the importance of swimming as a life saving skill. The meet was hard to watch. I miss it. I miss it every day. I know I’m EXACTLY where I’m meant to be and I wouldn’t change my journey for the world. But it’s really hard having to leave something that was your LIFE, on what feels like not your own terms. There was so much more I wanted to do, so much more I felt I was capable of. But what I did get, what I was able to achieve, the people and places that will forever be a part of me because of it, I am eternally grateful for. My mom offered to drive with me so I wouldn’t have to be alone, and getting this time with her brings me so much joy. An emotional weekend, but a powerful one, knowing we’re spreading the word of the Foundation’s mission of saving lives and building champions, in and out of the pool. My time as Missy Franklin feels like another life, so when I have moments of someone still wanting a picture with me, or to come up and say hi, those moments mean the WORLD to me.
