One of the highlights my Olympic journey was when Barbara Walters came to my house in Great Neck. Being one of her “10 Most Fascinating People of 2002” was (and still is!!) undoubtedly an honor, but getting to spend time with her and be interviewed by her was a Master Class in media, career, and how to handle yourself. Her staff took over our kitchen and living room with hair/makeup and lighting/camera setup. She arrived from the Hamptons in a convertible, concerned about her hair being wind-blown, but it was “worth it,” she said, to keep the top down. (We shot it in the summer but it aired in December.) She also asked about one of my most prized medals & I showed her my World Bronze Medal, which she was not impressed by (prob because it was so small), and, as you probably guessed, did not make the Final Cut. The whole thing was awesome. We laughed, I cried, I learned, and I will always remember. What a woman, what a broadcaster, what a PERSON!!
