ブリタニ・クラインさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ブリタニ・クラインInstagram)「Stopping by on the shortest day of the year, at least here in the northern hemisphere, with possibly my longest post of 2022.❄️ Nearly half of students attending college are first-generation college students (the first in their family to obtain a bachelor’s degree or higher). This creates a variety of challenges related to choosing a major, understanding finances, knowing the importance of involvement, and persisting on to graduation. According to Pew Research, in the U.S. only 26% of people with parents who do not have degrees obtain a bachelor’s compared to 70% of people with at least one college-educated parent. When I attended LHU, I had no idea what first-gen was or that it was statistically unlikely for me to enroll, drop out to go on a reality show and model, come back to college, and graduate with honors. Once I started working in higher education, I discovered this identity and information. Last weekend, I had the honor of attending Penn State’s Graduate School commencement ceremony to receive my Master of Professional Studies degree in Strategic Communications from the Donald P. Bellisario College of communications. 🎓 I started this journey in 2019 and a lot has happened since then to create many challenges as well as cherished moments, but I won't rant about all of that. It has been an incredible experience and I am thankful for the skills, mentors, and friends gained.
