ZIGGY AT FIFTY DOC ON BBC RADIO 4

“Time takes a cigarette...”

You no doubt remember Tris Penna and Sue Clark’s award-winning Exploring 'Life On Mars?' documentary originally broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in 2017, and indeed, their superb 'One Giant Step - David Bowie’s Space Oddity' production for the same station in 2019.

Due on Saturday 11th June 2022, Ziggy at Fifty is their latest offering, this time for BBC RADIO 4’s Archive on 4. Over to Tris:

Ziggy at Fifty features previously lost and unheard archive recordings – as well as contributions from Bowie’s friends and colleagues – with me curious sometime record producer and custodian of Ziggy’s mystical K WEST sign - Tris Penna.

Including archive interviews with David Bowie, Mick Ronson and Trevor Bolder, Ziggy at Fifty also features new interviews with Marc Almond, Bob Grace, Wendy Kirby, Laurence Myers, Kris Needs, Rick Pearce, Ken Scott, George Underwood, Mick Weller and Anya Wilson.

Originally released on 16th June 1972 the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars was an integral part of a meticulously planned campaign by David Bowie – an album to launch him into superstardom – and although never a number one record, it is consistently cited as one of the most influential albums of all time – wherein Bowie trailblazed the cultural upheaval of the 1970s.
