Aside from being the first full-page adverts for Bowie tour dates and the first mention of the upcoming Ziggy Stardust album, the adverts were also notable for George Underwood’s Ziggy cartoon illustrations. Speaking to George today, he pointed out that David’s brief was not to make the Ziggy character look like Bowie himself. This makes sense as Ziggy was being presented as a fictional character.
