In climbing, “flow” gets thrown around a lot. What does it mean to you? Maybe some coordination problem or a paddle dyno? ⁣

To me, flow is about precision and fluidity. In making every movement intentional and have them transition into the next smoothly, slowing down or speeding through, I’m always trying to move as artfully as I can. ⁣

While I mainly boulder, the feeling of flow comes a lot more when I’m sport climbing or working on an endurance climb on the spray wall like in this video.⁣

My injury grounds me from trying hard, risky moves though it has brought me back to the basics again. I still feel rather clumsy as I try to work my recovering leg back into it, but I’m glad that I can still feel what I perceive as flow. ⁣

I think the spray wall is a great tool for training, but not just from doing progressively hard boulders/moves. Walls and climbs like this can help improve movement sense and intuition. The freedom of choice on footholds feels awkward at first, then through repetition the sense is developed and honed.⁣
