It is one of the honors of my life to play a caregiver on @goodsamcbs. And the proximity and connection it has given me to real life caregivers is a gift. As we enter the 3rd year of the COVID pandemic, please listen to these experts. I know we are all exhausted, and that our nervous systems cannot keep up the hyper vigilance forever, but this is not over yet. Please continue to protect yourselves, your families, and your communities. Please continue to do what you can to stop more people from losing loved ones, suffering long COVID, and seeing their children fall prey to a top ten pediatric killer. We are tired, yes. But we are also (still) in this together. 🤍

Today marks 2 years since @who declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
Since then, we’ve experienced unfathomable losses worldwide:

🦠Nearly 5.2 million children have lost a parent or a caregiver*
🦠Over 6 million people have died**
🦠More than 100 million people have had or currently have PASC (Long-COVID)***

In the US, we are weeks away from hitting 1 million deaths****
To date, over 1,600 children have died of COVID-19, with 1/3 of those deaths happening in the most recent Omicron surge*****

Jobs, businesses, relationships, families, communities, economies, education, politics, medicine, and public health have been forever changed by this virus. Almost everything has changed.

Right now it is critical that we not lose sight of the fact that many are relying on the people around them for protection. As you navigate the ever changing mandates and restrictions, I ask that you consider your neighbors who may or may not have the same privileges or protections as you.
Think of the kids under 5 who are still waiting to be vaccinated, think of your elderly loved ones and neighbors, and think of the millions of people who are immunocompromised and at high risk of severe illness.

This pandemic is not over. And living with COVID-19 is our future. My hope is that our individual choices help us make living with COVID-19 less painful, for everyone.
