As complicated as the situation is, and even though I’m not Israeli, Palestinian, Jewish, or Muslim, I am human. I’m also from the United States and feel I must speak up when the country I’m from and where I live, supports atrocities abroad.
People always say Israel has a right to defend itself and I do not glorify kill*ng of any kind. Seeing pictures of Israeli people who have lost their lives due to the war breaks my heart. But if someone breaks into my house to rob me and steal my home, then I am the only one defending myself, and the intruder is attacking me. No matter what I do, they are always the attacker. Self defense is not an excuse they can hide behind.
The bombing campaigns carried out by the Israeli defense force are done with jets supplied by the United States. The US played a huge role in establishing the state of Israel and continues to support their imperialist practices by giving them billions and billions of dollars in military aid. My stance is not anti-Jewish, it is anti-colonist. I come from a country that genocided itself into power, and I am ashamed to see us continue to help others do the same.
