As we take time to rest and reflect, we want to share the stories of friends, collaborators and team members who emulate these values. Introducing Nicolas Sassoon, a Franco-Canadian visual artist based in Vancouver, BC. Fixated on early computer graphics and imaging techniques, Sassoon uses rudimentary software and his abstract design language, to create hypnotic digital animations. For SS19, we collaborated on a limited capsule collection featuring freeze-frame graphics from Storm 36, Sassoon's animated rendering of Vancouver’s inclement weather as he observed it through the window of his studio. At the intersection of the natural world and technology, the Storm 36 series explores the relationship between pixelated computer patterns, textile fabrication and the motion of the human body. Utilising a moiré technique, two images overlap to create the illusion of a third — reminiscent of the way two yarns may be woven or knit to create a finished textile. On body, elements of physical motion amplify the effect and produce a trance-like sensation, an original intention in Sassoon's work. As graphic application on apparel fabrics, Storm 36 is presented in a newly altered state on a new physical canvas; pausing the moving image to be observed at a single moment in time. #wingsandhorns #themakers」3月19日 23時40分
