At that time in Soviet Russia, they did not allow Jews into Medical School. Twelve years later, I had to reveal my identity in order to seek refugee status to leave the country and emigrate to the United States with my husband, Tony and my 4 year old daughter Anya. After we settled in the United States, I brought 24 of my relatives over from Soviet Russia within 3 years.
