Until very recently I haven't paid very much attention to where my food is coming from, how important variety is in our diet and what environmental impacts our food choices have. Where does our obsession with protein come from? How do chickpeas grow? How are milk and meat produced? What is Tempeh? Lots of questions I didn't know the answer to. It seems very alienating to think that just a century ago people were growing their own food and nowadays we usually don't have any idea how the foods we buy in the supermarkets are grown, how grains and legumes look before they are harvested and wrapped in plastic. I have tried to learn more about everything revolving around food production, diet and their impact on the environment. It's been a very interesting process so far with lots of eye-opening podcasts, books and movies. I have come to realize that it is up to each of us as individuals to educate and critically think about what we are consuming and what we fuel our bodies with.
