Weekends, holidays, he always makes sure to take care of his customers.“ Jess’s dad, Nelson Cheng, passed away recently from Covid. And true to Jess’s words, he worked until the very end...for 32 years in the Carvel ice cream shop in Yardville, NJ. Through the pandemic, he drove his 15 miles a day (7.5 miles to the store, 7.5 miles back), he gave out free ice cream to the little league team when they won a game, he remembered your name and favorite order; and now the storefront is covered with layers of flowers from the community who will miss him dearly. I love the story of his life. The way he gave out moments of happiness in the form of an ice cream cone. The sense of accomplishment from an honest days work. That good ole warm feeling of serving people food you love. It’s something so familiar as it’s the heart and soul of any chef, any small business owner, and (as I discovered recently) any father. I know this is why I wake up daily and do what I do. I know it’s the same things that made Jess the person she is today. So here’s a moment I wish we could bottle up and keep forever: the first time Mr. Cheng tried a Cronut from the bakery. (If you knew him, you’d know he ultimately preferred a plain croissant instead.) I love the way it made him smile. What a life and legacy - one any of us would be proud to leave behind. We love you Jess, we love your family, and we will share your dad’s story for many years ahead.」2月21日 2時17分 - dominiqueansel
