During #Nirvana’s meteoric rise to fame after the release of #Nevermind, @kurtcobain was most often seen playing his 1965 Fender Jaguar. Kurt bought his guitar from an ad in a 1991 LA Recycler classifieds magazine. But this wasn’t just any Jaguar. It had an unusual amount of mods, including an extra volume pot, three-way pickup switch and dual humbuckers. It came with a professional-quality touring case, but the previous owner’s identity was unknown.
The guitar’s origins remained a mystery for decades, until 2014 when an eagle-eyed message board user named Blazer spotted Kurt’s guitar in a video of a Cliff Richards show from 1980. The left-handed guitar was in the hands of Martin Jenner, guitarist for Cliff Richard and The Everly Brothers. Though nothing has been 100% confirmed, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic tweeted about the guitar, saying it “makes sense that it’s the same axe.”
2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of #Nevermind, an album that continues to inspire musicians around the world. Happy birthday Kurt. #LegendHasIt
