Here’s a story for you about my beautiful wine red 1980 Gibson Les Paul - Standard. I played this guitar on all my earliest tours and recorded most of my early 80’s albums with it, most notably "Summer of 69". Then for some reason, I decided to sell the guitar around 1988, what possessed me to do that I will never know, momentary madness obviously.
Anyway, not long afterwards, I started to realise that I had made a mistake selling it, when people started to ask me to sign live photos of me playing the guitar at Live Aid, but it was too late, it was long gone. I had no idea where it had gone or who had bought it and I felt terrible that I had made such a foolish mistake.
Fast forward to the mid-90’s, and I’m doing a record signing for “18 Til I Die” in Toronto, and a guy comes up to me at the shop and says he has my guitar, he’s broke and would I like to buy it back? I said yes I absolutely would, thank you very much. So here it is, back with me…I suppose a guitar wouldn’t be a guitar if it didn’t have a little history to it, besides, it wasn’t happy being away.
