When I listen to it now, it was just a collection of quite good sounding demos written primarily with Jim. I’d never taken any of the songs on the road, as I didn’t have a band yet, unlike the next album (i mentioned that album in the previous post) where all the songs had been played in bars and rehearsed with a band. It makes a big difference if you can rehearse your music with a band before you record it. You’ll learn something. Anyways, back then I was a seriously broke musician that had been handed a chance with what seemed to be a reputable company. So with no manager or anyone on my side looking after where it was all going, I blindly kept going, following that inner compass pushing me forward.Anywhere was better than where I had been, and it’s funny to reflect on it now, because ultimately, all it did was get me out of the shitty bars and into the better shitty bars! The marquee would say “A&M recording artist” and I'm grateful for those bar days cuz it’s where I figured out how to make things work, it was hard as hell, but I knew it wasn’t where I was gonna stay. I had other plans…I was headed to NYC. But I couldn’t have gone there without making this album first, so thanks to Jim, Brian Chater, Jerry Lacoursier, Michael Godin and my ma.
