“We have power cuts and TV is too expensive,” says 17-year-old Stacey from Kenya on her struggle to continue learning remotely during COVID-19 school closures.
Not being able to attend classes online, she spent most of her day sitting outside in the alleyway - often in the dark - studying her textbooks in the hope of not falling behind and soon being able to return to school.
Remote learning used to be a nice-to-have. Now, it’s a must-have. Yet, in 2020, 463 million children were unable to access remote learning globally. Significantly expanding access to the internet and digital devices is vital for ensuring that all children and young people are learning and acquiring the knowledge and skills they need to reach their full potential.
