From @nytarchives: The beloved fashion photographer Bill Cunningham captured this amorous drive-by on Madison Avenue in May 1982.⁣

Cunningham — most likely wearing his utilitarian blue French worker’s jacket and undoubtedly pedaling around the streets on his bicycle — noticed that affection was wafting in the warm city air as New Yorkers shed cumbersome winter mittens and scarves. In addition to documenting this motorcycle moment that day, he also photographed a Vogue publisher properly kissing the hand of an actress as well as the owner of the restaurant Le Cirque receiving a smooch from a satisfied diner.⁣

“Spring is a time for flowers and for things to turn green and for kissing,” the caption said in his weekly column. “Why not?”⁣
