They are specially reared for their wool, which is light in weight and can be easily woven into pashmina or cashmere fabric. The wool is extracted from the sheep in a noninvasive way by combing the undercoat. These goats roam the Ladakh plateaus with their Changpa owners in extreme conditions and contribute to the food chain of the harsh ecosystem.
