Photo by @Tim Laman. Red-bellied Woodpecker in the snow this week. I know you are wondering “Why the heck is it called the Red-bellied Woodpecker when it has a red head?” Well, I guess when they were giving out woodpecker names, Red-headed was already taken, and this species does have a tiny bit of red on the belly if you look close. I know, kind of weak on the naming front….. Anyone have any better suggestions?
