Hatched on this day 150 years ago, the U.S. Commission of Fish and Fisheries was created to investigate commercial fish decline and oversee restoration efforts. It was the first federal agency to study and protect a natural resource. Over the years, it evolved and eventually grew to become the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Keeping up with many of those original duties, The @USFWS Fish and Aquatic Conservation program manages 71 fish #hatcheries and helps stock our rivers and streams with 98,000,000 baby #fish a year.
