I’m not gonna lie, my nurse instincts kicked in, but so did my emotions lol. She was crying inconsolably around 3 in the morning. I came into her room and she was so hot, her hands which are normally cool felt burning hot, along with the rest of her body. I immediately stripped her down and took her temp. She was crying and batting the forehead thermometer away from her head when I got a 102 reading. I immediately gave her Tylenol and cooler her off. I was a little worried she might be higher since she wouldn’t sit still and her hands and feet along with the rest of her body were burning up. But my readings kept saying 101.9 or lower. It dropped to 100 after Tylenol. She had her 12 month vaccines on the previous Wednesday so maybe it was just her immune system reacting? I called her pediatrician and he confirmed that’s it. She has continued to have a temp of 101-102 for the last couple of days we have been able to control with Tylenol. She hasn’t had any cold or Covid symptoms. She is acting normal besides being sleepy and having a low grade fever. Despite her feeling under the weather, she has been so cuddly with me the last few days. She’ll crawl to me anywhere and just sit in my lap petting me or her little plushy toys. I’m keeping her hydrated, her temp controlled and giving her all the cuddles. I never imagined that moments like this would make me realize that being your Mama is the best feeling in the world, my darling. I’m also so grateful I have my nursing background so my instinctual panic and care for you can turn into quick action. Surprisingly, she is more calm and cuddling now than normal. I had this preconceived notion she would be super inconsolable or fussy the first time she spiked a temp or got sick. Instead, started doing these upside down downward dog yoga moves daily now 😂.
