Photo by @gabrielegalimbertiphoto - From my project FATHERS - I will be 44 years old in a few months. Almost all of the friends around me have become parents in the last few years. A couple of friends and I are the only ones in our group who don't have children of our own yet. Naturally, I began to observe how others were raising their children. I would watch them play together and hear the children's arguments and complaints at mealtimes or bedtime. I often took care of the children during those times. Maybe, just maybe, these things make me want to be a father. That's why I decided to make the relationships between fathers and their children the focus of this photo project. Wherever I am in the world, when I meet a father, I ask him to tell me about a special moment he spent with his children and, when I can, I photograph them together. This is Michael Chamorro Suarez (32) with his children Johan (7), Jamie (5), Sofia (5) and Giulia (1) in Cahuita, Costa Rica. Michael was born and raised here, a little town (population roughly 1000) on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Over 10 years ago, when he was still a teenager, he opened the first pizzeria in town. He still owns it and he still works there. It’s now the most successful restaurant in Cahuita, and every night it is full of tourists and locals. Michael works every day, from 5 p.m. until late at night, so he’s free to spend time with his children every morning and also for a few hours after lunch. They love to go biking together but, even more than that, they love to play and jump on the trampoline.
