Since I turned 40 in the middle of a global pandemic I couldn’t have a big party - I guess now that it’s been a year, we’ve all had that experience haven’t we? Anyhow, I needed to re-think how I’d like to celebrate this year of my life and decided to make a list of things I’d love to do in my 40th year. I hadn’t planned to post this on the anniversary of Kobe and Gianna’s deaths - but here we are, again, taking stock of how brief life can be; certainly a worthwhile reflection in the middle of a global pandemic. . Today my son’s 3rd grade teacher let the class know she’ll be moving across the country in a couple of weeks. Not to put words in her mouth, but I think her family, like so many, realized it was time for a change. Sarah and I went in and hugged on our son and we all cried together a bit. It’s sad - and happy - and strange. So many of us are using this COVID season, this imposed reflection time, to reorient ourselves. . I’m excited about this year (even if it’s off to a strange start) because I plan to proactively fill it with the life-giving friends and events and plans that will make all the birthdays still to come worth celebrating. .
