It was powerful! We demonstrated peacefully to remind those in power that women’s rights are human rights. That body autonomy matters. We also gathered to peacefully protest against other agendas by 45’s administration and a broad platform of progressive political positions including native rights and to express environmental concerns. I was also there to advocate on behalf of the National Endowment for the Arts also targeted by 45. This would have also impacted the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Shuttering arts-education and humanities programs leaves life colorless and unimaginative. What are we if we aren’t intellectually elevated, spiritually restored and culturally represented by expressing ourselves through books, poems, music, dance and art? -Dead inside? Machines? • As I woke up this morning, after the best night’s sleep in a while, I felt relief that I don’t have to march on the mall today to dissent against all that was being legislated by 45. I don’t have to march for reproduction rights for my nieces, my girlfriends, my son’s future wife or daughter. I don’t have to march against immigration bans, cry out for environmental issues, or job inequality. For LBGTQ+ rights. (For the moment anyway. Keeping a watchful eye though) Today, i don’t have to march because I know there’s an administration at work which is inclusive of the most diverse cabinet ever assembled in our nation’s history. They were elected because they too want to protect Women’s rights and Dreamers. They are accepting of science. They are going to roll out a Covid vaccine plan, get unemployed Americans and small business owners relief payments. They’re keeping Americans homed by implementing emergency eviction moratoriums, helping mortgage holders, uniting families separated at he border, rejoining the WHO, and the Paris Agreement.
