I was 25yrs old and was only competing for two years at the time nervous as all hell going against some fierce competitors. Back then, there was only one class for men so there usually was around 30-40+ competitors per weight class which made it very difficult to get noticed from judges as everyone looked incredible. What many don't know is back then I was working as a retail manager at Bally Total Fitness in Glendale, Colorado and working at night clubs downtown to make ends meet. I was literally so broke, as I had no sponsors that the day of prejudging I only had $24 dollars left and still needed to eat for the rest of the day. Fortunately I was being pursued by both @musculardevelopment and @flex_magazine. @officialflexwheeler attended the show while working for MD and took me out for lunch after prejudging to do some recruiting. Needless to say that steak meal helped my physique, but also kept some money in my pocket lol. I later won the show and ended up being signed by Flex Magazine instead and thankfully signed my first contract in this sport. To say I was excited was an understatement as I could not only pay my bills, but have a little extra to save. When I see this image I think of how much pain and sacrifice I had to make just to get to this contest and proves as a reminder that I never gave up even when I only had a few bucks in my pocket. Back against the wall is sometimes the best situation one can be in because it'll force you to make a life changing decision...fight or continue to get beat down. I'm thankful that God gave me the strength to keep fighting! I encourage you all to keep fighting for your dreams to come into reality. Do it with style, do it with passion, vulnerability and when you're hurting the most, smile because that really pisses those demons off lol. Love to All!
