Man—-today is crazy I’ve never received this level of creative gifts in my life like this.——-man @gerardbradford just literally ended my record collecting career. As in there is now literally no album that I wish to own because I have them all. I started w #NeilSedaka in 76 & now......wow. There was one elusive 45 I’d never thought I’d see again. This was once in a jukebox at @silkcitydiner in Philly back in 95. I tried to cop it but too late...it was gone. This is priceless in my opinion.

Backstory is #SlyStone just put the finishing touches on his new single in 1969 called “Stand” & he is hella excited to see how the kids react to it. He had a great run w #DanceToTheMusic 2 albums back but although innovative the followup lp Life didn’t rise above slightly north to his cult audience. Thus he was super focused to bring the magic this go round so he wouldn’t be pegged as a one trick pony. So he goes to #WhiskeyAGoGo on sunset w a test pressing to see if the kids dig it. Welp—-they were “meh” at best. Frustrated he went back to studio & whupped that baby into shape w a new funk ending. He did away with the “vegas ending” version & a funk revolution was born.

Or so he thought. This isn’t the first time Sly has had issues w alt versions of his music: 74s “#SmallTalk had a longer breakbeat on some copies w #TimeForLivin on it. The 1990 reissue of Fresh gave completely different (some funkier) mixes of about 6 songs. Welp....I scoured the earth to no avail for the “vegas ending” & gave up last year.
