The vast majority of the 9 billion tons of plastic produced in the last fifty years is in a landfill, swirling in the ocean, or littered on the ground. By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish, by weight, in the ocean. Per capita, the US has the highest plastic consumption in the world. But plastic is only part of the problem. Ten thousand people die every day from illness related to air pollution from fossil fuels. And in the last fifty years, we have lost sixty percent of the planet’s birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals, many of which have gone extinct.
