today is martin luther king jr’s birthday. he exemplified strength, truth, hope, and bravery - one human whose impact cannot be measured.

what if the answer to healing our divides lies not in sitting in silence, choosing not to acknowledge it, or to surround ourselves only with people that agree with us on every issue - but instead to *love the human* even as we may find ourselves at odds with some of their opinions?

not everyone can be a leader. not everyone is up for the challenge of facing opposition and speaking their mind about a position. it can feel as though doing so divides us further. but what if we all reject the name-calling and labeling? *especially* when we see it coming from those with whom we do agree?

i celebrate #MLK’s birthday by remembering that we are all more alike than different. it is impossible and destructive to make broad sweeping assumptions about another human being and their values because of what they look like, where they come from, or their political affiliation.

it is up to each and every one of us to be the kind of person we want to see reflected around us. labels only work if we let them. because guess what? if someone wants to say ‘everyone who voted for ____’ or ‘everyone who believes ____’ is
