Congratulations to everyone who competed at the North Island Colgates over the weekend!

The Colgate Games are the big athletics events for New Zealand's children athletes from ages 7 - 14.

I competed at 3 Colgate Games; the 2003 South Island Games when I was 11 and both the North Island and South Island Colgates when I was 13.

At 11 years old I was:
2nd in the 400m (1.08)
3rd in the 1500m (5.34)
and 4th in the 800m (I can't remember my time).

At 13 years old I was:
North Islands:
400m: 1st (1.00.20)
800m: 1st (2.21.83)
1500m: 1st (4.56.08)

South islands:
400m: 1st (59.59)
800m: 1st (2.23.22)
1500m: 1st (5.08.49)
Long jump: 3rd (4.69m)

I noticed the top 2 in the 400m, 800m and 1500m at the North Island Colgates this weekend just gone, went faster than I did at the North Island Colgates when I was 13.

Super exciting to see such strong talent coming through!

Later that season, while still 13 years old I got my times down to:
400m: 57.28
800m: 2.14.78
1500m: 4.47.93

This is for people who are interested in seeing other people's journey from junior to senior (I love seeing everyone else's).

We are all different though. I know women who are now ranked top 10 in the world over 800m who weren't even running at that age or who were not running well. We all peak, improve and have ups and downs at different ages 😊

All the best to those competing at the South Island Colgates this weekend in Nelson!!!! You've put in the hard work, now it's time to go out there and enjoy it!!
