Magnum photographer Peter van Agtmael (@pvanagtmael) documented the chaotic scenes at the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6. for @TIME Magazine magazine, as a mob whipped up by President Trump stormed police lines, smashed windows and broke into the building in an attempt to block lawmakers from certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
.
(@pvanagtmael) spoke to Fred Ritchin – Dean of School at the International Center of Photography (ICP) – about the his coverage of the events for Magnum: “What was shocking was when I arrived at the Capitol with the first wave of rioters and saw that the police presence was entirely inadequate. There was absolutely no way they were going to hold back this tide of people.”
