In 2019, Chuck Schumer tried to persuade Stacey Abrams to run for Senate in Georgia, against David Perdue. Her decision not to run was met with disapproval from many observers. “I was following the protocol that I set for myself,” Abrams said, in defending the choice, “making sure that I take on jobs and roles because they are the right thing for me, and not simply because they’re available.” Instead, she focussed on addressing the voting irregularities that her campaign identified in 2018.
