“We went through 30,000 water bottles in 3 months. It was mind-boggling. We got tired of finding plastic caps and plastic water bottles. Even though we patrolled it, they were everywhere. And then I started learning about the small particulates that still are in the water that really never go away. That for me was the ‘a-ha’ moment. What are we doing to this fishery, and what are we doing to the people downstream? Our water is the biggest lake in the world to flow into two different oceans. If the oceans are having problems, why wouldn’t we help do something?”
