I knew even back then if I was going to get the most out of my film crews that I had to feed them well....So I set out to find the best burger in NYC! Thank G-d for @thefamouscozysoupnburger A small family owned spot where I had the best burger ever! A #TexasCheeseBurger with an egg on top! The steak fries were to die for and on a cold day I would order a split pea soup otherwise a chocolate milkshake! I started to go everyday sometimes twice a day for lunch and dinner and became fast friends with the waiter on the Night Shift, George, who I later found out was married to Mike the owners sister! George was the best and when it was too cold to leave my dorm on University place right around the corner he would personally deliver my burger fries shake with tons of ketchup and a fresh fried egg on top! What a great guy! I told George I needed a house account because I was low on cash and at some point needed to feed my crew for my future Student film “Whatever Happened to Mason Reese” George told me I had to speak to the bosses George and Mike, and if I came in when he was coming into work he would make the intro personally and put in a good word! He did and when I explained that I needed a house account and one day I would be a big director and pay my tab with a lot of interest once I made it in the movie business...they didn’t even blink and gave me the credit! Over the next four years not only was I able to feed my crew but I ate on credit....I was told to keep my arrangement a secret so the other NYU students (@adamsandler, Bennett Miller, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman) didn’t try to get the same deal! I agreed and Cozy delivered for me big time. When I needed 39 fresh coffee’s and pea soups to go they delivered for my crew! When I had a date with Naomi Campbell and I couldn’t even afford dinner Cozy was there for me! She loved her burger but was was even more impressed that I got to sign the check! I owe most of my NYU film success to the support and credit Cozy gave me! They were there for me when I needed them most! Please help keep them in business if you are in NYC!
