1. Cut one 7.5-inch by 5-inch rectangle from your sequin fabric. Repeat with your solid knit fabric.

2. Cut two lengths of elastic for ear loops. I cut mine to be 8 inches in length, but you may wish to cut yours longer or shorter depending on the size person you are making the mask for.

3. Press the long edges of the knit rectangle 1⁄4 inch to the wrong side. On your sewing machine (with a stretch or jersey needle installed), stitch just next to the pressed edges using a zigzag stitch.

4. Pin the knit rectangle right sides together with your sequin rectangle along the short ends. Note that the upper and lower edges of the sequin fabric will remain unfinished, so it will be 1⁄4 inch longer than the knit piece on the top and bottom. Stitch the two pieces together along the short ends using a zigzag stitch and a 1⁄4-inch seam allowance. Turn the pieces right side out.

5. Thread an elastic loop though each sewn side of the mask and tie the ends in a secure double knot. Using a straight stitch, stitch 3/8 inch away from each short side of the mask, creating a channel for the elastic. (Be careful not to stitch the elastic itself.)

6. Trim the ends of the elastic from the knot. Rotate the elastic loop in the channel so that the knot is hidden inside the channel. Scrunch the channels up to form gathers and pin through the elastic and fabric at each end of the gathers. Stitch the elastic in place where pinned to secure the gathers and the elastic.

7. If desired, you may use a hand sewing needle to tack the layers together at the top and bottom of the mask.
