1. If your mask doesn’t have a nose wire, you will want to add one to support the weight of the fringe. Snip a little opening in the upper edge of the mask on the wrong side with a seam ripper or small scissors and insert the nose wire into this casing. Tunnel the nose wire though until it is positioned at the center of the mask. (Your hand stitching in the next steps will hold the nose wire in place.)

2. Cut a length of rhinestone fringe that is equal to the length of the upper edge of the mask from ear loop to ear loop.

3. Thread a hand sewing needle with a long length of doubled thread. Tie thread ends together in a knot.

4. Position the fringe on the upper edge of the mask’s right side with one hand. Starting from one end where the ear loop meets the mask, sew the fringe in place using a whip stitch: insert the needle from the mask’s wrong side, between the fringe’s strands, and loop the thread around the upper edge of the mask, back to the wrong side, catching the fringe in the stitch. Continue stitching to the opposite ear loop, knotting off your thread and re-threading your needle as needed.

5. Shape the nose wire to wear.
