The show was recorded in the UK on 11th September, 1977. The seemingly bizarre coupling of Bowie and Bing worked beautifully, and such was the public interest in the duet, that RCA issued it as a single in November 1982. It was a huge international hit, including in the UK where it reached #3 on the singles chart, making the performance an enduring Christmas classic.
