Would you dare go in this glowing cave of ice?

The glacial tongue that stretches from southern Vatnajökull and into the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is Breiðamerkurjökull, forming the icebergs that characterise this beautiful landmark.

Breiðamerkurjökull retreats, splits and melts continuously, allowing the size of the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon to increase; it is less than a century old, but the deepest lake in Iceland already.

This glacier tongue supplies all its enormous icebergs to the lagoon, which detach permanently from its tip and tumble into the waters.
