Steffanie Strathdee’s husband became violently sick in 2015. He went into a coma, and doctors warned Strathdee, an epidemiologist, that they were running out of options. Then, while searching the biomedical literature for alternative treatments, she found a reference to an experimental solution: phage therapy.
