So. 1.) we don’t have directress or cinematographess categories 2.) there are a number of gender non-binary performers excluded 3.) it’s pretty absurd to compare performances generally, but even more so with this separation by gender. Thoughts? (Edit: thank you all for your thoughts and consideration! I’m going to distill a few things that keep coming up. 1.) get rid of award shows generally since they’re, by nature, exclusive. Totally hear that. 2.) unintended consequence of this will mean cis men outnumbering all other performers. Again, fair point. 3.) expanded acting categories might make sense (ensemble, dramatic, comedic) to offer more opportunities to different performers AND I am so grateful for all of your thoughts and this conversation!
