DAILY BOWIE THING – Day 41
“Standing tall in the dark...”
Today’s objects of desire are record company promotional standees and hanging mobiles, or in-store displays. These were produced to promote new releases and were given to record shops for that very purpose.
Pretty well every album since Aladdin Sane had these as part of their promotion in the larger stores, with smaller ones sometimes getting scaled down versions. These things vary from almost life-size standees to smaller countertop cut-outs.
It’s possible that standees and mobiles were made for earlier releases, we just haven’t seen any. A large Ziggy Stardust one (along with others) was produced for the SOUND + VISION campaign, but that was 1990 not 1972.
If you decide to choose this as yet another avenue of Bowie collecting, there are two things you’ll need in abundance…cash and space! Also, try to remember that’s a standee in your bedroom in the middle of the night, and not a burglar.
Come back tomorrow for a Saturday surprise. The surprise will be ours as we have no idea what #DailyBowieThing we’ll be showing you yet.
