Well, we did a trade, actually, but I’m not really sure that signed books from me quite earned this magnificent dinner. When it arrived in its huge box, I thought I’d never be able to get through it all.  No one could accuse me of being a light eater, but I’m just not used to meals-of-many-courses these days. And yet somehow I managed. Quick précis: his justly famous baked salsify with parmesan to kick off with (pic 2); goose rillettes on toast with cornichons and THE most divine pickled figs next (pic 3). I still managed to eat all of the turkey and bacon pie (the meats kept tender in the most exquisite broth; the pastry lid perfect, perfect, perfect) with sprouting broccoli and only the best mash ever. And then somehow I managed a slice of almond pie – and what an almond pie – with custard, Jersey cream, and berry sauce. It wasn’t hard.  What a real treat. I’m very grateful. And to show my gratitude, will be making a donation to those who are not able to feel this full or this happy. .
