Often my jobs as a fashion photographer are in the studio - due to having more control of the light and environment & ease of being able to complete client briefs. However, I have to say that location shoots always speak to my heart because it’s how I started out in the industry! As a young teenager getting into photography I’d use locations that were freely available to me & rely on interesting environments for storytelling and visual impact. TIP: My top tip for a location photoshoot is to always try and achieve consistency in the light and mood! This makes for a more cohesive fashion or portrait series. Whatever you are shooting it is important to pay attention to the light and ALWAYS have a plan B or C for weather. If the light is going to be bright (and clear skies all day!) then I will plan to shoot in the early morning and evening when the sun is at its lowest. In these light scenarios the light is softer and naturally more diffused vs. midday sun (which results in harsh overhead light). If you absolutely have to shoot through harsher light scenarios or need more control then think about light shaping accessories that diffuse and/or completely block out direct light - which places your subject in the shade.
