“Hindsight is 2020” is a saying. Little did we know with Covid19 and George Floyd how much our world would change. Would we huddle up in a cabin and blow out candles for a 20th birthday? Probably not.

After visiting @memphisroxclimbing in 2018, the inaugural year, I realized that something special was afoot. Climbing connects people as it is based on trust. Support for each other is the bond we thrive on. MemphisRox will not turn anyone away based on inability to pay. It also offers a kitchen for the residents of South Memphis that are food challenged. This year the gym was also a polling place.

While climbing in Memphis, I suggested a journey to Hyalite Canyon, Montana. @mona__lisha , @malikthamartian and Chris Dean latched on to the idea. The @reelrock team, when presented with the idea, partnered with @ザ・ノースフェイス to make a week long winter camp a reality. We had fun. We learned from each other. We all focused on the positive power that climbing is. @fred_climbs @adreadedclimber

A 40 minute film, by itself, isn’t going to change the race relations in the US. Yet within our community, bound by gravity, we have the opportunity to speak out and be agents of change.
