Repost from Dr Birute Galdikas @drbirute ... Here at one of OFI’s posts in Tanjung Puting National Park an orangutan named Stephen wades through the flooded camp. It is now the wet season but the dry season in previous months also was very wet, sparing the local area from forest fires. Orangutans have no fear of water and do not swim. (The exception are captive orangutans with life jackets.) Even in the wild I have seen orangutans “playing” with water in swamp pools and by the river’s edge. Much of orangutan habitat in Borneo consists of peatswamp forest.
