In an era when women were mostly excluded from the male-oriented business world, Madame Clicquot dared to assume the role as head of the Veuve Clicquot company, while Yayoi Kusama forged a highly influential career as an artist at a time when society was both patriarchal and subservient.
Now, Veuve Clicquot bubbles and Kusama polka dots combine in a new project celebrating the champagne house’s new vintage, La Grande Dame 2012.
Kusama has created a psychedelic sculpture in resin and metal, which clambers over the magnum, its blooming pink, red, yellow, orange, blue and black flowers, spotty petals and curly, cartoon leaves – more fairy tale than commercial packaging design – simultaneously referencing microscopic and macroscopic universes.
