He came from a medical ward in a shelter in rural Georgia— emaciated with heartworm and deep inner-ear infections. Thanks to some amazing women he was already on the mend once I got him. It can take a good 3-6 months to get to know an adopted animal for who they really are and over the last 6 months, Charlie had some issues come about. Just when I thought we were good, a new issue would arise. Some issues mild, some not so mild (and no, the @hellogorgeousgeorge crew was never in any danger). Charlie’s doctors think he’s 7 or 8 years old. His behavior clearly shows he’s never had any structure. Most likely just a dog that lived in the country, free to roam and do whatever he wanted. To do right by him, I realized I had to be a better leader and realized I wasn’t as knowledgeable on how to do that as I thought. I’ve never had a big dog and quickly learned how how different a 90 lb dog can be from a 9 lb one. Found out that just because he’s a beautiful golden retriever, that doesn’t mean he’s a lazy squishy cuddle bug. It goes without saying that I’m in it for the long haul with this guy, so I needed to find the right person to help me. ⁣ ⁣ Cut to the magic of @cheri_wulff_lucas. I stumbled on the wizarding world of Cheri when she took on THREE feral Cane Corsos that were found in Angeles National Forrest. If you didn’t follow that whole sitch, peep this page: @mountainrescuedogs 🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺 I followed these dogs’ journey like it was my job. There are trainers that are hardcore, there are trainers that are delicate and positive and gentle, and then there’s Cheri. She very much has her own style of training and I’ve never seen anything quite like it. She has a gift and it’s just incredible to watch. (continued in comments)」11月25日 7時54分 - kristin_ess
